: What ever happened to all the displays and uniforms that were in inventory?
The museum started as a bicentennial exhibition in 1976. It eventually grew into a full-blown museum with exhibits on all aspects of the island's history, and the sea services in the Pacific. It was closed when NSTI closed in 1997. The collection is in storage on the island.
The Treasure Island Museum Association is trying to keep the collection on the island when the Navy turns the island over to San Francisco, which might happen in the next year or two. We hope to reestablish the museum when the island is redeveloped.
