My "claim to fame" is being an incubator baby at the Golden Gate International Exposition. I arrived at the fair on August 3, 1939 weighing 4 lbs. 9 ozs. and left one month later weighing 7 lbs. 1 oz. The Incubator Baby Building was on the Gayway. I was born at home. The doctor that attended my mother mentioned small babies were needed at the fair. My dad said, "No child of mine is going to be in a freak show!" That night, I was a naughty girl. I soiled every diaper and gown in my layette. The next day my dad called the doctor and said, "Take her, she's yours!"
