I was there in 1970/71 and we had to ride the bus into SF. It was still the time of my life. BART was under construction at the time. We transitioned over from the ancient barracks to the new ones. That was a nice change, too.
As for suffering to get by, one of my classmates, Brian T Way missed the conversion from SR to ETN3, go married, got an apartment in Oakland and bought an airplane he kept in Hayward. He and the wife can never look at hot dogs and baked beans again.
I'm trying to find somebody from ET"A" that remembers the troubleshooting technique they taught (Identify the faulty function,...) Hopefully somebody will remember it and email.
